Camera bags

Lowepro Photo Sport 200 AW

Buy @ B&H Photo or AMAZON

This new pack from Lowepro is super lightweight and perfect for short outdoor expeditions.  It features a slide opening and a small padded compartment suitable for a camera and two lenses.  The material the bag is made of is so light that this is the lightest camera bag I’ve ever owned.  There’s also plenty of extra room in the pack for clothing, food and a water bladder pocket.  I’ve even taken to using this recently as an everyday bag around town when I want to grab my laptop and my Fuji x100.  Lowepro  did a fantastic job with this pack and they hit an impressive price point for such a well made bag.

Think Tank Airport Airstream Roller

BUY @ Think Tank

As airline baggage restrictions get tougher and tougher I’m constantly looking for ways to slim down my travel gear.  The Airstream roller bag is well within the airline international carry on regulations and looks completely unobtrusive.  The problem I have found in the past is that when you push the limits you draw too much attention and even when you can get your bag in the dreaded cage, mine are NEVER within the weight limit.  This small roller will still fit my 300mm f2.8 L IS, a long zoom a wide zoom and a couple of camera bodies.  Exceptional build quality comes as standard with any Think Tank product.

Think Tank Skin Set

Buy @ Think Tank

I’ve put together a review of this stuff over on my photo blog so check it out if you’re interested.  It really is fantastic stuff if you are shooting events.  All the individual pieces lock onto the belt so they don’t slip around and the soft but strong material packs down easily in your travel bag.

F-Stop Loka

BUY @ F-STOP
The Loka is my go-to backpack for most everyday situations.  It’s lightweight, sleek and stylish an holds many different of combinations of internal camera units.  You can pack it for a quick city trip or a long day on the mountain with pro cameras and 300mm f2.8 lens.  For many more photos of the bag please check out my full review HERE.

F-Stop Tilopa BC

BUY @ F-STOP

The F-Stop Tilopa BC is the bigger brother of the Loka.  Designed to handle bigger backcountry missions than the Loka it features a larger 35 liter volume and a heavier duty harness system plus a dedicated padded laptop sleeve.  For a much more detailed review please take a look at writeup HERE.

F-Stop Satori EXP

BUY @ F-STOP

Another step up the size ladder and you get to the F-Stop Satori EXP pack.  This bag is the bag you need for intense backcountry or overnight missions.  Able to hold the XL sized camera unit and still leave room for extra food and clothing.  For more details on this pack please check out my writeup on my other site HERE. Note that F-Stop released the EXP in 2011, and it is an upgraded version of the old Satori which includes all the additional features seen on the Tilopa BC and the Loka.

F-Stop ICUs

BUY @ F-STOP

The great thing about the F-Stop system is that it is designed around versatility.  You pick how much camera protection you need in your bag for a give situation.  If you just need 2 lenses and a small body then you can pick the small ICU.  If you need to take a pro body and 8 lenses then the large ICU will suit your needs.  Or even a combination of medium + small.  The ICUs can be ordered separately or at a discount when you purchase the backpack shell.  They also make great solutions for gear storage in your office.

Pelican 1550

BUY @ AMAZON or B&H Photo

When I’m at home, my lenses live in this case to keep them safe and organized.  When I leave on a big trip I tend to pack my Elinchrom Ranger kit into this hard case.  I can fit the Ranger pack as well as a head, spare batteries and all the cables and pocketwizards I need.  If I’m flying I then put the pelican case into a duffel bag so it doesn’t stick out quite so much.  Pelican cases tend to scream EXPENSIVE GEAR and I prefer to stay under the radar a little more.

Think Tank Retrospective 10

BUY @ Think Tank

The retrospective bag from Think Tank is perfect for a day in the city when you want to keep your gear discrete.  This particular version of the bag is big enough for 3 or 4 lenses and you camera body as well as the important accessories like filers and memory cards.  It comes in a beautiful stone washed style material that actually looks better and better the more you use it and the shoulder strap is the thickest and most comfortable one I have ever used.  Sadly I never really have room to take this bag on my world travels as I need the backpacks in those situations but when I just need something to carry a camera and lens around town this is the one I quite often grab.

Think Tank Airport Check In

BUY @ Think Tank

This ingenious laptop bag from Think Tank has everything you need when you are on the road with your computer.  A dedicated and removable cable/charger organizer, a padded laptop sleeve, attachable backpack straps and a super thick shoulder strap.  Use the purchase link above to visit the Think Tank site for more photos, but so far I haven’t found a laptop bag that even comes close to the clever design of this one.  Designed for photographers, by photographers, it really has everything you need.

Think Tank Cable management 10 & 20

BUY @ Think Tank

Simple organizational pouches from Think Tank that come with elasticated cable ties.  The cable management 10 has a clip on one end and that allows it to clip into the lid pocket of the F-Stop Loka or Tilopa which is great for stashing camera cable releases and flash triggers.  The 20 is slightly larger and I use that one for my card readers and various USB and firewire cables when I’m on the road.
